ACICA Pacific Islands Practitioner Scholarship Program, Australia; The Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration Limited announces the ACICA Pacific Islands Practitioner Scholarship Program, which will award up to two scholarships.

These scholarships offer a rare chance for lawyers from the South Pacific to participate in the esteemed ACICA and Ciarb Australia International Arbitration Conference and Australian Arbitration Week. Funded by the ACICA Education Fund Scholarship Program, this initiative aims to enhance knowledge of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and arbitration among lawyers in the Pacific Islands region, fostering their expertise in these fields.

ACICA (Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration) is the go-to organization in Australia for resolving disputes internationally. To ensure efficient dispute management, ACICA hosts events annually: the Australian Arbitration Week (AAW) and the ACICA & Ciarb Australia International Arbitration Conference.

This year’s AAW will take place in Brisbane from October 13-18, 2024, bringing together experts and professionals in the field to discuss pressing arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) issues worldwide and within Australia.

Eligibility

  • South Pacific Jurisdictions (Including Micronesia) are eligible countries.

  • Acceptable Standards:
  • Candidates must be admitted to practice law in a South Pacific country as a lawyer or barrister.
  • Three years of post-admission experience at the very least are necessary.
  • Through a brief expression of interest statement, applicants must demonstrate an interest in or practice in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and/or international arbitration.
  • It is necessary to verify availability during Australian Arbitration Week in the applicable year.

How to Apply

For the 2024 scholarship program, applications must be submitted by May 31, 2024. Applications will be assessed by the ACICA Education Fund Trustees against specific criteria and the required supporting materials. Selected candidates will be invited for virtual interviews with the committee. Within 8 weeks of the submission deadline, the final selection will be disclosed.
