Singh Gurmit is a Singaporean actor, comedian, presenter, and television personality Virk Chainchal Singh. From 1994 to 2014, he was a well-known artist for Mediacorp. He was a former Mediacorp artist and is best known for playing Phua Chu Kang in the television series Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd, and Phua Chu Kang The Movie, for which he won the Asian Television Awards award for Best Performance by an Actor (Comedy) five times between 1998 and 2001 and in 2003 for the first. He took home the Highly Commended honor from 2004 to 2005.
Gurmit was raised as a Sikh but converted to Christianity in 1985. He was born to an East Asian (Chinese-Japanese) mother and a Sikh Indian father, Chainchal Singh. During his secondary school years, Gurmit Singh attended Outram Secondary School.
