NBCC Minority Fellowship Program for Mental Health Counselors (Master’s); The NBCC Foundation is offering the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP), funded by a grant from SAMHSA. This program awards up to 30 scholarships of $10,000 each to master’s-level students pursuing Mental Health Counseling (MHC-M). The scholarships also cover travel expenses for related training events.

The NBCC Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) focuses on reducing health disparities by addressing the mental health needs of all Americans, regardless of their background. This program includes groups that face challenges due to factors such as race, ethnicity, culture, faith, gender, sexual orientation, location, or military service.

By giving scholarships to counseling students pursuing master’s degrees, the NBCC MFP bolsters initiatives that involve diverse people in counseling and expands the pool of qualified counselors.

Applicants should have expertise in working with any of the following communities:

* Underserved minority groups *

Children, teenagers, and elderly individuals

* Minority populations in urban or remote areas

* Minority individuals (including LGBTQ+ individuals)

* Veterans or individuals from military families Furthermore, applicants must be committed to providing services such as teaching, administration, research, or direct mental health counseling to at least one of these populations.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status.
  • Applicants must not already possess a master’s degree in a behavioral health field.
  • Applicants must not receive any other federal funds (except for federal loans, or work-study programs).
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled full time and be in good standing in a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)-accredited master’s-level counseling program.
