Luka Yoshida-Martin, born April 10, 2001, is an Australian rules footballer who plays for Brisbane in the AFL Women’s (AFLW) division.
Luka began playing soccer at the age of eight and has continued to this day. She showed tremendous talent early on and was chosen for the National Premier Leagues Women’s academy program. She improved her skills while playing junior football for Brisbane City FC and The Gap FC, and she even represented Queensland in soccer.
Yoshida-Martin, 19, joined with Mitchelton FC to play adult football. A devastating ankle injury, though, nearly ended her soccer career. Undaunted, she decided to try Australian rules football while still playing soccer.
In 2019, Luka made her foray into Australian rules football, joining the Kedron Football Club and contributing to their Division 1 premiership victory. She also showcased her talents at the University of Queensland in the AFL Queensland Women’s League.
